MERCATOR COMPLETES MAJOR IT PROJECT FOR MIDDLE EAST AIRLINES

DUBAI, U.A.E., 29 May, 2006: Mercator, the Dubai-based IT division of the Emirates Group, has completed a major IT project for Lebanon’s national carrier Middle East Airlines (MEA), with a successful installation of its RAPID passenger revenue accounting solution.

Specialists from Mercator worked closely with the MEA team in Beirut, providing business knowledge and project management skills needed to launch the RAPID system on time and within budget.

Adib Chrief, Head of Information Technology, MEA, said, “RAPID forms an important part of our ongoing drive to modernise our airline and streamline our operations. It will help us get a clear view of how our business is performing, and we’ll be able to make decisions, quickly and with confidence.”

Now, MEA will be able to close its books in record time at the end of each financial period, increasing cash flow and protecting hard-earned profits. Efficiency and productivity will also be boosted, and accounting costs will be dramatically reduced. In addition, MEA will benefit from an invaluable stream of financial and strategic information, paving the way to a sharpened competitive edge.

MEA joins Mercator’s growing list of airline customers for its accounting systems, which includes Emirates, SriLankan, British Airways, Qantas, Air New Zealand, Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines.

Patrick Naef, Emirates Senior Vice President IT, said: “This illustrates yet again the abilities and dedication of our professionals who are able to complete some of the most complex IT projects, while keeping to budgets and deadlines. MEA can rest assured that they have the best possible solution to their revenue accounting needs, and we look forward to supporting them and watching their business grow over the coming years.”

MEA flies more than 1.1 million people a year on its fleet of nine brand new Airbus aircraft. Its route network spans 25 international destinations throughout Africa, Middle East, and Europe.
