MERCATOR RECEIVES INNOVATION AWARD AT ITB
DaeX, (Destination Accommodation Exchange), Mercator’s real-time booking system for the hospitality industry, has been acknowledged by the World Travel Awards (WTA) at ITB 2008 in Berlin for its innovative approach to helping hotels and their wholesalers do business together. The WTA Innovation Award was presented to Robert Kane, Mercator’s Product Strategy Manager, by Tony Pancaldi, Director Global Projects, on March 6th. “We are delighted to have been recognised by World Travel Awards for innovation in IT. We believe that DaeX is unique in the hospitality IT sector and it's very gratifying to see that other organisations share that belief,” commented Mr. Kane. “DaeX was designed to automate the often cumbersome hotel room booking process traditionally carried out using email and fax. With DaeX, bookings which could take up to 24 hours to approve can now be confirmed in seconds.” Kane added. DaeX is a B2B web service which makes bookings directly into a hotel central reservation systems, (CRS), or property management systems, (PMS). It can be fully integrated into a wholesaler's in-house system, it can be configured to convert traditional emails into bookings or it can be accessed from a website, making it ideal for hotels' corporate clients. Unlike other systems that require continual updates, DaeX holds no rates or availability information but retrieves it dynamically from the CRS/PMS at the time of the request so wholesalers can give their customers real-time information on which to base their purchasing decision. At the same time, hotels do not need to invest significant cost and effort in distributing this information to wholesale and corporate clients. Contracts can be fully managed centrally. DaeX provides a unique, highly efficient solution to the challenge of managing room allocation agreements between hoteliers and travel trade partners.
